QA Graphics is seeking a Technical Designer to join our team in Ankeny, Iowa. This full-time position is ideal for individuals with a background in Industrial Design, Technical Design, or Mechanical Engineering who want to apply their technical skills in the HVAC and mechanical industry.
This is NOT a creative design role. Instead, it is a technical position focused on building automation and mechanical system graphics. Candidates should enjoy working with structured processes, technical drawings, and system-based designs rather than freeform creative design.
Past success in this role has come from individuals with degrees in Industrial Design or Technical Design, as well as Mechanical Engineering graduates who may not be pursuing a traditional ME path but are eager to start a career in the growing Building Automation industry.

Role & Responsibilities
As a Technical Designer for Building Automation, you will:
- Convert control drawings into graphical representations using a pre-configured symbol library.
- Work with HVAC and mechanical system graphics to support building automation projects.
- Receive comprehensive training to develop the necessary technical skills.
- Collaborate with clients and teammates to ensure project success.
- Apply technical aptitude to learn and adapt to new software.
- Work both independently and as part of a team in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Technical Design, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Basic understanding of design software.
- Strong organizational and project note-keeping skills.
- Ability to provide customer support for graphical issues.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to multitask while staying organized.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and set priorities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
