Steel Fabrication Material Handler

Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Materials Handler to join our manufacturing and fabrication company specializing in steel power towers and substations. As a Materials Handler, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of materials throughout our warehouse facility. Your primary responsibilities will include material movement, inventory management, loading and unloading, order fulfillment, and warehouse organization. The successful candidate will contribute to the efficient operation of our manufacturing processes, ensuring timely delivery of materials to support project execution.

Responsibilities:

1. Material Movement:

• Safely and efficiently transport materials within the shop using appropriate equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Follow established procedures and guidelines for the movement of materials, ensuring accuracy and minimizing damage or loss.
• Collaborate with other departments to coordinate material transfers between shop locations and production areas.

2. Inventory Management:

• Perform regular inventory counts to ensure accuracy and reconcile any discrepancies.
• Update inventory records in the warehouse management system, accurately recording receipts, issuances, and transfers.
• Monitor stock levels and generate reports to facilitate efficient procurement and replenishment processes.

3. Loading and Unloading:

• Safely load and unload materials onto trucks, trailers, or other transportation vehicles using appropriate lifting and securing techniques.
• Verify accuracy and quality of incoming and outgoing materials, comparing against shipping documents or purchase orders.
• Ensure compliance with loading and unloading procedures, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

4. Order Fulfillment:

• Pick, pack, and stage materials for outbound shipments according to order specifications.
• Prepare shipping documents, labels, and packing slips accurately and in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with shipping and receiving personnel to ensure on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.

5. Shop Organization:

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, adhering to 5S principles and safety regulations.
• Optimize space utilization by organizing materials in designated locations and implementing efficient storage methods.
• Assist in the implementation of warehouse layout changes or process improvements to enhance productivity.

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5 years previous experience in materials handling preferred.
• Valid forklift operator certification strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret shipping documents, labels, and packing slips.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks.
• Excellent physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and operate equipment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in operations.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and work demands.
