Essential duties and responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Oversee the overall safety program for the construction of a new drug substance manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and standards.
- Collaborate closely with the main contracting firm to ensure safety is a top priority across all phases of the project.
- Manage safety elements such as permits, Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews (PSSRs), and ensure a build team that adheres to safety protocols and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across the construction site to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Enforce safety policies, procedures, and training programs for all site personnel.
- Monitor safety performance and report to senior management, recommending improvements or corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensure the proper use of safety equipment and protective gear for all personnel on site.
- Proven experience advising on safety programs for large-scale construction projects, with experience on projects ranging from $100M to $400M.
- Background in safety for greenfield construction, ideally with drug substance biologics or similar industries (non-Biologics / Pharma experience will be considered).
- Strong knowledge of safety standards, protocols, and regulations, including OSHA, MSHA, and other relevant safety certifications.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing safety from the design phase through to operational start-up and handover.
- Experience with managing or working alongside the main contracting firm to ensure site safety.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Ability to provide detailed safety reports, conduct risk assessments, and implement safety mitigation plans.
- Familiarity with pre-construction safety requirements, including PSSRs and safety permits.
- Relevant safety certifications and training preferred
