Job Title: Automotive Supplier Account Manager
Job Summary:
QST is a growing global electronic sensor company, expanding their presence in North America. This requires QST to build a team in the Detroit area that will support a newly acquired business with manufacturing in Mexico. We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Automotive OEM/Tier Account Manager to join our NA team, reporting to the Senior Sales Manager. This role is responsible for managing and growing relationships with key automotive OEM’s and Tiers, ensuring customer satisfaction, and driving business growth. This role is also responsible for expanding sales opportunities by introducing new products and technology to existing customers while developing relationships with new potential clients. This applicant must have a background in both sales and some application engineering roles preferably serving the engine, transmission and overall powertrain sensor markets within the automotive industry. Knowledge of engine cam/crank and transmission speed/position sensors is a plus. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the automotive purchasing, manufacturing & supply chain systems, strong negotiation skills, and a proven ability to manage multiple accounts effectively. As the role will be remote in the near term, we are searching for self-starter types that can manage their accounts and sales pipeline growth without close supervision. This role will be remote in the near term, transitioning to a hybrid model as our NA presence grows. Communication with the team in China is also expected, and familiarity with international collaboration is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with automotive OEM’s and Tiers and key stakeholders. Must have demonstrated experience working with GM, Ford, Stellantis and some of the major Tiers such as Magna, Bosch, Eaton, etc…. European & Japan/Korea OEM’s a plus.
· Manage OEM & Tier accounts to ensure timely delivery of products and services while maintaining cost efficiency.
· Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with OEM’s & Tiers to optimize business outcomes.
· Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the automotive industry.
· The position will be 50% account management, 50% business development (seeking growth with existing and newly developed products).
· Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, procurement, and logistics, to meet customer expectations.
· Monitor QST performance, address any issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
· Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities.
· Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on account status and growth strategies.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
· Minimum of 5 years (10 years preferred) of experience in account management, preferably within the automotive industry.
· Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
· Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
· Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Ability to travel as needed to meet with local OEM’s, Tiers and potential clients. Travel expected to the manufacturing plant in Mexicali, Mexico and NA HQ in San Jose, CA. Local travel 25-50%, non-local 20%. Potential for some (limited) travel to Asia.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience working with OEM’s, Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers.
· Knowledge of automotive purchasing, manufacturing processes and supply chain logistics.
· Familiarity with global sourcing and international supplier management.
· Experience collaborating with international teams, particularly in China.
