Job Summary
The Chairperson plays a pivotal role in leading and guiding the educational initiatives of our institution. This position involves overseeing curriculum development, ensuring high standards in literacy and early childhood education, and fostering an environment conducive to learning. The Chairperson will collaborate with educators, parents, and the community to enhance the educational experience for students.
Qualifications:
· MA License as Special Education Teacher or related field and/or Special Education Administrator
· Minimum of 5 years working with special education students in a professional capacity
· Strong knowledge and application of Massachusetts and federal special education regulations and laws
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Ability to prioritize and respond effectively within timelines
Responsibilities:
· Chair all building-based IEP Team meetings
· Schedule all IEP meetings within mandated timelines
· Supervise and help to complete all IEP paperwork within required timelines
· Attend monthly Team Chair meetings with Director
· Maintain special education records
· Ensure all IEP paperwork is provided to parents within required timelines
· Supervise the implementation of IEPs that have been accepted by parents
· Supervise the completion and distribution of progress reports
· Work collaboratively with Alternative Education staff and administration regarding placement of students
· Work collaboratively with outside agencies to plan for post-secondary transition
· Assist in planning and proctoring for MCAS
· Assist in assigning special education paraprofessional schedules
· Work collaboratively with Department Chair of Guidance and Director to create student schedules
according to their IEPs.
· Develop and maintain effective working relationships with regular education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals and school and district administrators
· Assume an active role in promoting and maintaining sound relationships with parents to strengthen home/school relationships
· Assist Director in meeting requirements of state and federal audits, Coordinated Performance Reviews, and Corrective Action Plans
· Observe high ethical and professional standards in the discharge of all responsibilities
· Perform other duties as are appropriate to the role of Team Chairperson as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services
