ESG Controller

Summary of Position:

The ESG Controller is responsible for Quaker Houghton’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting. This position serves as a subject matter expert and is key strategic leader for global ESG reporting requirements, including the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and SEC rulings, amongst others. This role is a member of the Global Controller’s team and be responsible for setting the strategy, governance, and managing the implementation of ESG reporting requirements and developing and maintaining related standards and policies, particularly in coordination with Finance and the Sustainability teams.

The ESG Controller will be a key leader responsible for monitoring the evolving global ESG regulatory reporting landscape, staying apprised of emerging ESG reporting developments and collaborating with stakeholders across the Company to develop our strategy to meet all requirements and to ensure consistency in what we report externally.

Near-Term (Next 6-12 months) Responsibilities

• Providing recommendations to executive leadership on organizational strategy and governance for ESG.
• CSRD Implementation
• Lead the CSRD implementation plan across multiple functions and workstreams; define near- term actions with project leaders, external consultants and subject matter experts (SME’s).
• Collaborate with SME’s to direct the implementation of quantitative KPIs and various tools including internal controls for ESG data capturing for audit purposes.
• Review and determine if Quaker Houghton policies capture the relevant CSRD requirements to be compliant; develop a policy checklist.
• Ensure other qualitative ESG disclosures (e.g., narratives) are in place for the relevant ESRS topics (to be reported in the Annual Report).
• Develop and implement Quaker Houghton’s ESG reporting tool.
• Establish the structure required for third-party assurance and manage the internal and external audit processes, partnering with the global SME’s to ensure a smooth initial audit process.
• In collaboration with the Compliance and Sustainability teams, drive the Company and SME’s to develop a strong control mindset around ESG data. Establish, ensure and maintain an ESG governance and control framework.
• Lead the implementation and utilization of systems and processes for collecting and reporting ESG data that provide confidence in the integrity for external reporting.

Long Term Responsibilities:

• Maintain and manage Quaker Houghton’s ESG reporting tool.
• Manage the implementation roadmap and timelines for ESG regulatory reporting and drive continuous process improvement.
• Lead the coordination of drafting and maintaining narratives and other documentation supporting non-financial metrics, ensuring appropriate delegation of responsibilities in coordination with the Steering Committee.
• Develop the strategy to maintain and provide ESG accounting/reporting-related training and guidance to the company.
• Manage the evolution of the various internal and external global ESG audit processes, including transitioning from limited to reasonable assurance and to an SEC-compliant audit.
• Stay current on global ESG regulations and provide strategic recommendations for upcoming ESG disclosure and reporting requirements, such as the EUs Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the U.S. SECs Climate Change Disclosure Rule.

Education, Experience and Training:

• Degree in finance or economics, accounting, or business law. CPA a plus.

Required Minimum Number of Years of Relevant Experience:

• Minimum 7 years public company accounting and/or project management experience, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in financial reporting or technical accounting in a public company SOX compliant environment. A great interest in emerging and evolving sustainability matters is a plus.
• Proven ability to read, interpret and apply technical guidance and to explain complex issues. Strong analytic skills.
• Strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills. Ability to build relationships across the Company, gain buy-in, and lead with confidence in developing our ESG compliance and reporting framework.
• Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment.
• Strong stakeholder management and inter-personal skills. Executive presence is required.
