PLC Programmer

Position Overview

The Programmable Logic Controller - PLC Programmer designs schematics and writes, documents, tests, and installs programs for equipment in the manufacturing process. The position provides technical support to both the company and outside customers. The PLC Programmer will discuss procedural problems, then think logically on how to revise steps in the operation manual of a program. The position continually fine-tunes the production and dependability of equipment programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Use automation software to write, troubleshoot, and upgrade PLC programs for equipment
• Design, panel layout and create electrical schematics and diagrams for machinery
• Troubleshoot issues to find root causes and adjust programs and equipment as necessary
• Read and interpret logical flow diagrams
• Offer training, guidance, and support to machine operators, co-workers and partners
• Perform inspection of machinery, and document results
• Prepare Standard Operating Procedure documents and other relevant documentation
• Complete and maintain the BOM - Bill of Materials for the required part components
• Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
• Interact and communicate with employees and customers in an appropriate manner.
• Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
• Communicate via email, prepare reports and work schedules.
• Review and analyze data and information concerning tooling programs for equipment.
• Plan, prioritize and monitor equipment software upgrade activities.
• Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibility

No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.

Safety

Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment including but not limited to eye and toe protection; report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly. Follow department specific safety requirements during visits to the production floor.

Qualifications

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook
• Proficient with PLC Programming
• Proficient with HMI Platforms (the Human-Machine Interface dashboard/screen that connects a person to a machine through PLC)
• Knowledge of various computer programming languages for PLCs like Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, Ladder Diagram & Instruction List
• Proficient usage of hand and power tools
• Basic Knowledge of Mechanics

Preferred Education and Experience

The expectation is that the individual has achieved a minimum level of education and/or related expertise to qualify for this position.

• High School Diploma or a passed General Education Development Test
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree Preferred
• Experience with Industrial Controls, 2-5 Years Preferred

This is a manufacturing job. The employee must be able to:

• regularly lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds;
• work shifts of at least 8-10 hours, and occasionally longer, for 5-6 days each week;
• occasionally bend, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl as necessary and
• stand for prolonged periods

This position must use team lift any time objects exceeding 75 pounds need lifting or carrying.

It is an essential job function and safety rule, applicable to every employee working in a safety sensitive classified position, to be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
