Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Shift: 1st Shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM)
Rates: $20 - $30/HR Depending on Experience
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Qualdoc is seeking a skilled Wire EDM Machinist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting Wire EDM machines to produce high-precision components. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and experience with Wire EDM operations.
\n- Set up and operate CNC Wire EDM machines to cut and shape precision parts
- Safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
- Recognize and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling
- Read and interpret drawings and blueprints to follow work instructions
- Determine the appropriate tools needed for each task
- Utilize precision measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.)
- Perform regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment
- Read and follow travelers (job-specific instructions)
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to all company procedures, rules, and regulations
- Work overtime as needed, including evenings and weekends
- Communicate effectively with others to coordinate work in the plant

- Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (G, D, and T)
- High school diploma or GED
- 3 to 5 years of related experience preferred
- Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Ability to interpret and translate instructions to others in a professional manner
- Strong interest in engineering and mechanical systems
- Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Must have basic machinist tools
- Ability to move or transfer products using an overhead crane
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. when required
- The employee will regularly stand, walk, reach overhead, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb ladders, and use stairs
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Expected to spend time using a computer
- The work environment is typically moderate to high in noise levels due to machinery operations. The employee will be working in a shop environment with necessary safety protocols in place.
