POSITION DESCRIPTION: Casual Building Services-Support Worker
REPORTS TO: Building Services Lead and The Administrator
ROLE SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Building Services Lead and the Administrator, the Building Services-support worker is responsible for all maintenance requirements as they pertain to efficient operation of Qualicum Manor; all aspects of regular maintenance, repairs, building improvements, environmental issues, fire and life safety.
The Building Services-support worker will work with the Building Services Lead and the Administrator and or their delegate to prioritize work in order to keep operations and safety for all residents at an optimum level.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working closely and collaboratively with the Building Services Lead, Administrator, Office Manager, Charge Nurse, support services lead and specialized external contractors and advisors, this role has the following responsibilities:
The Building Services Support Worker plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents in long-term care. This position involves performing various maintenance and housekeeping tasks to support the overall operation of the community. This role has an on call component to cover for the building services lead down time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance of resident rooms, common areas, and community grounds.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks, including repairs and upkeep of equipment and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and infection control practices.
- Respond to maintenance requests and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Support environmental services by managing the collection, and distribution of garbage, supplies, and resources.
- Collaborate with care staff to ensure a pleasant living environment for residents.
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Documents and maintains daily logs, general maintenance and scheduled and un scheduled repairs
- Working with JOHS members supports fire safety and fire drills
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a maintenance or housekeeping role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Working Conditions:
- May require standing, walking, lifting, and moving of equipment or supplies.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and potentially hazardous materials.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.70 - $28.01 per hour
