Requirements:
- You must be a US Citizen.
- Must be registered for Selective Service.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government SECRET security clearance.
- Candidates who have never had a security clearance are not eligible
- Potential for travel up to 50% of the time
Responsibilities:
- Serve as subject matter expert for rotating machinery configuration and testing using narrow band vibration analysis techniques.
- Develop technical and administrative procedures to standardize the Ships Force Vibration planned maintenance methods, and operations to meet US Navy policy and objectives.
- Research rotating machinery internal configuration and create CAD drawings of external views as well as schematic representations of the rotating assembly. Requires experience with understanding rotating machinery technical manuals and internet searches.
- Utilize a computer (PC) based program to create CAD drawings and to maintain a database of machinery assets for vibration programs.
- Maintain a database with machinery nameplate data, drawings, forcing frequencies, and test operating conditions that are used to generate Vibration Test Analysis Guides (VTAGs).
- Conduct vibration surveys on US Naval Service (USNS) Vessels, which involves international and domestic travel.
- This position involves solo travel and work on US Navy vessels and at commercial industrial facilities. Candidate must be motivated and resourceful to perform work independently while also knowing when to request assistance.
- Candidate must qualify ISO 18436-2 (Vibration Analyst Cat II) within 6 months of start date. Associated costs for training and exam (1st attempt) will be paid by the company. Retesting costs will be the responsibility of the employee.
Qualifications:
Education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished
A thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering principals, and
A good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and their application to mechanical / electrical engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by two or more of the following:- 1. US Navy or Merchant Marine Experience—Successful completion of at least 4 years in a billet requiring qualification and watch standing in a US Navy steam, gas turbine, or diesel propulsion plant. The ideal candidate will have qualified (senior in rate) in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program or 3A/E on an MSC vessel.
2\. Academic Courses-Successful completion of college level courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences. The courses must be acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science Engineering degree. Completion of Naval Nuclear Power School fulfills this requirement. 3\. Work Experience-Successful completion of at least 6 years employment where your primary duty was the operation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of systems that utilize a significant amount of large rotating machinery. Several examples are heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), industrial refrigeration, municipal wastewater processing, steel or aluminum processing, mining, power generation, and marine propulsion. 4\. Other Experience - Four years exp. in operation and calibration of vibration data acquisition and processing instrumentation and field experience in recording vibration spectra, including experience in at least three of the following skills: a)in-place balancing of rotating machinery; b)fault diagnosis from vibration spectra; preparation of machinery asset information; c)operation of CAD systems; d)service and repair of vibration recording and analysis instruments; e)training of personnel in vibration analysis technique
