What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Mechanical Estimator (Design-Build / Plan and Spec) position at Quality Air, Inc.?
- Collaboration with the design team to develop mechanical budgets.
- Participation in departmental structuring and meeting to achieve team growth.
- Provide support to business development using historical data and experience.
- Interact with project owners, engineers, subcontractors and vendors as needed
- Perform neat, orderly and accurate takeoffs and pricing with no supervision or direction
- Interpret and/or fill in scope gaps when drawings are incomplete.
- Solicit bids from subcontractors to be incorporated into the estimate for accurate pricing.
- Produce proposals and assemble bid packages required by the procuring entity
- Effectively communicate the scope of work, risks, and potential value engineering items for each major project at a bid review meeting with the sales team and upper management.
- Create complete and fully functional Excel spreadsheets and Word documents
- Provide oversight, on the job training, and mentoring for subordinate Estimators.
- Collaborate with operations to keep production rates current and align estimating systems with current field technology and processes.
- At least 5 years proven experience in mechanical estimating.
- Proven experience with a successful track record estimating complex projects.
- Preferred EST Mep software experience.
- Experience in Quote Soft, Quote Express, or similar estimating software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge and clear understanding of current mechanical codes. With an understanding of piping and ducting systems, including the various materials, sizes, and installation methods.
- Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
- Ability to perform detailed work while achieving deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team.
- Adaptability to the unique requirements of their organization while fulfilling the core responsibilities outlined above. In addition, you will need to have a deep knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, construction methods, and local market conditions to provide accurate cost estimates that help ensure the success of construction projects.
