What are the responsibilities and job description for the VDC Component Designer position at Quality Buildings?
The VDC Component Designers will design wall panels and any necessary submittal functions using
Mitek Panel Software & AutoCAD, Expectations are as outlined below, includes but not limited
to the following.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Activity and Resource planning:
• Design top quality complete wall panels
• Create shop reports
• Create panel material lists
• Overlay floor and roof truss plans to ensure constructability
• Verify panel layout has all necessary dimensions
• Overlay steel drawings
• Complete all 4 design levels if needed
• Answer and troubleshoot any questions related to wall components from the
manufacturing shop and field crews
• Other duties as assigned
Collaboration:
• Collaborate with project manager
• Request design pertinent info from VDC Manager in a timely, persistent manner
• Provide deadlines to receive info as needed to meet design and project schedules
• Submit detailed RFI’s with possible solutions to the extent possible
• Attend weekly VDC meeting
• Coordinate design submittals
Scheduling:
• Collaborate with VDC Manager for timelines

Safety Requirements:
• Work with ear protection when necessary
• Work in a loud environment when necessary

• Maintain and follow proper safety protocol
• If provided with company truck must follow all legal and company policies
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
• Office environment/desk work on a regular basis
• Moderate/as needed travel to job sites required
• May require standing for periods up to 10 hours a day
Required Skills:
• 0-3 years’ experience as a drafter or similar role
• Technical training in drafting or building modeling.
• Detail-oriented with strong visualization skills.
• Basic math and carpentry
• Knowledge of reading blueprints/drawings
• Experience with Mitek, AutoCAD, and/or other BIM software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage your own time and schedule
• Flexible and adaptable
Preferred Skills:
• Associate’s degree in drafting, construction, or related field.
• Hands-on construction experience.
• Experience with REVIT, CadWork, and/or other BIM software.
• Experience creating production shop drawings.
• Familiarity with building codes and standards.
• Working knowledge of construction methods and materials.
Results Expected:
• Provide a complete and accurate panel design, per the project documents, in a timely
fashion.
REPORTS TO
• This role reports to the Manager of Virtual design Construction (VDC)
SUPERVISION
• The position does not have any regular responsibility for overseeing or supervising the
work of other employees
