Job Function:
The EHS Teacher is responsible for implementing school readiness curriculum and adhering to EHS requirements as outlined by the Head Start Program Performance Standards and the Office of Head Start.
Essential Function:
- Plans, organizes, implements, along with a co-teacher, a developmentally appropriate program for infants and toddlers ages 0-3 years (with a 4:1 student-teacher ratio)
- Follow standards and regulations set forth by the Head Start Performance Standards, and Chapter 52 manual of requirements for childcare centers state of new jersey department of children and families
- Works collaboratively with other EHS Teachers to ensure the successful operations of a classroom with a total of 8 children per classroom of which each teacher have 4 primary children, as well as maintaining accurate records in an individualized folder for each child.
- Implementation of the Creative Curriculum for Infant/Toddlers to achieve outcomes for children of all abilities; plan and implement educational activities to meet the needs of all children in the classroom in keeping with the philosophy and Performance standards of Early Head Start and the licensing requirements of New Jersey.
- Builds and maintains a positive, nurturing, and supportive relationship with children and families; plans and provides a learning environment and experiences that promote the physical, social, cognitive, and language development of children.
- Assesses development of assigned children and sets goals by also communicating with parents and encourages their input regarding the growth and development of their children.
- Maintains a safe, healthy, learning environment in the classroom and on the playground.
- Reports safety hazards and/or equipment needs to the center Director who reports it to the Quality Care EHS Education Specialist and/or Health & Safety Specialist.
- Follows health and safety procedures for hand washing, diapering, handling bodily fluids, sanitizing toys and equipment, serving bottles and food, and breastfeeding procedures.
- Cooperates/Collaborates with Quality Care EHS agency personnel to ensure compliance in the delivery of all EHS services for continuous quality improvement.
- Submit a minimum of one instructive lesson plan for the classroom activities no later than Wednesday for the following week.
- Observe, assess, screen, and document each primary child's growth and development by submitting observations utilizing the Teaching Strategies Gold® platform daily/weekly.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate records and reports. This may include maintaining classroom documentation and compliance with four events per school year, such as home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
- Ensure that the process of providing service, including children with special needs, in the classroom is implemented.
- Plan activities, along with co-teacher, that encourages parents to participate in the classroom and include activities which can be implemented in the home.
- Attend training and workshops to ensure the 20 hours of professional development required each year is completed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED and immediateenrollment in a Child Development Associate (CDA) coursework program earning 120 hours or Infant/Toddler CDA credential or Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with training hours in Infant/Toddler content.
- Experience working with infants and toddlers preferred.
- Able to lift a child weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to maneuver on the floor with children.
- CPR Certification (preferred but training provided if needed)
- All positions require candidates to successfully complete background check, fingerprinting, Criminal History Record Information, CARI" "Child Abuse Record Information, and Monteux test as part of a health physical.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.49 - $22.59 per hour
