What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deckhand position at Quality Energy Services, Inc?
1. Summary
-
- Responsible for assisting and preparing barge and equipment for loading and/ or unloading of various cargoes. Work is in a marine environment. Working in all weather conditions. Rotational shift work is required
2. Functional Responsibilities
-
- Inspect cables and/or other various rigging components
- General rigging of equipment on deck
- May perform minor maintenance on equipment and other machinery
- Responsible for providing directional signals to crane operators (Flagging)
- Sweep and clean decks, barges, and ship holds and ensure proper housekeeping standards
- Clear all walking areas of trip hazards and dangerous materials
- Clean excess oil/grease from equipment and work area
- Fuel equipment as necessary
- Work with hand tools (shovels, sledgehammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.)
- Painting/needle gunning and general upkeep of the crane rig
- Clean and maintain quarters.
- Report ALL incidents through company’s reporting protocol
- Support company safety initiatives
- Demonstration of knowledge of all required competencies
- Perform other duties as required
3. Required Skills

- Experience is preferred, but not necessary to apply
- Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety manuals, operations instructions, and policies/procedures.
- Ability to write reports and simple correspondence and effectively communicate/present information to groups of co-workers, customers or employees
- Mathematical Skills – Basic Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Reasoning Skills - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
- Ability to handle problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

5. Physical Demands

- This job requires frequent heavy work
- Employee will be exposed to high noise and the potential of chemicals and fumes or gases in the field environment
- Employee will stand or walk 75% of the time and frequently be asked to bend, squat, or reach and occasionally climb
- Employee will be on call 24 hrs.
