JOB DESCRIPTION
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
Responsible for restoring the handicapped to their fullest physical ability and supervise the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS
A graduate of an occupational therapy curriculum accredited jointly by the Council of Medial Education of the American Medical Association with at least one year experience. Must be registered by the American Occupational Therapy
Must be capable of performing job duties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in evaluation of COTA when necessary.
Assists physician in establishing / determining appropriate program in occupational therapy for total and continued care of selected handicapped
Restores function, increases joint motion and improves muscle strength and coordination through passive / active exercise and / or activity.
Evaluates and trains in activities of daily living.
Determines if any adaptations of equipment are needed and / or assistive devices and adapt and train in their use.
Determines if any upper extremity splinting is needed and fabricate or order.
Establishes opportunities for more satisfying relationships with family, friends, aides, etc. Assists in expression and directs in qualification and sublimation of emotional drives.
Assesses activity tolerance within the disease process.
Assess perceptual motor skill and treat.
Assess sensation of the upper extremities and make family, aide and patient aware of safety precautions.
Observes, records, and reports to the physician the patient's reaction to treatment and any changes in the patient's condition.
Provides consultation and guidance to other health agency personnel in certain phases of occupational therapy with which they may work with the patient in regard to techniques to encourage optimal use of his remaining capabilities and / or rehabilitation gains.
Instructs the patient's family or substitute family member concerning those aspects of treatment in which they may work with the patient.
Supervises and teaches in order to improve practice within the Company.
Conducts inservice programs relative to occupational therapy role and treatment program to agency personnel as needed.
Submits visit notes and route and time sheets daily and within 24 hours of date of
Attends inservices, seminars, or other meetings as assigned by the immediate Supervisor or other management.
Maintains confidentiality of information related to business practices, business activities, and personnel.
Maintains a professional attitude when working with staff, fostering the team philosophy and team environment for all personnel.
Does not allow personal affairs to interfere with scheduled work time.
Maintains a professional appearance at all times.
Provides proper notification and / or advanced notice of absence or tardiness without abuse.
Participates willingly with special projects and / or overtime work when requested.
