SUMMARY
The acclimation aquarist 1 is responsible for the acclimation of all newly arriving animals into the facility’s water quality and holding system conditions.
Primary RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Unload, weigh, and sort boxes after arrival.
- Fill the first-stage acclimation water barrel.
- Clean holding aquaria.
- Open boxes, remove airline/shipper labels, and sort contents.
- Open bags and acclimate fish to system conditions.
- Take water samples, measure with water quality equipment, and record on assessment document.
- Drain acclimation buckets as they fill and move to empty locations on the treatment table.
- Cover new arrivals to reduce stress.
- Assist in putting up the labels.
- Clean up acclimation area.
- Stack boxes and throw away trash and recycling.
- Measure and assist in salt addition to the system.
Secondary RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Perform physical inventory counts as needed.
- Provide coverage for marine and freshwater husbandry tasks as needed.
- Make space as needed.
- Put away fish/inverts as needed.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualification/Requirements
- Hard working.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
- Weekend and Holiday work required.
Physical Requirements
- Night, shift work required.
- Standing for more than 7 hours per day
- Overtime worked as required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
