What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Technician I - Broodstock Husbandry position at Quality Marine?
SUMMARY
The broodstock husbandry technician is an entry level role responsible for maintaining healthy broodstock fish for our Aquaculture department. This is achieved through daily health assessments, feedings, tank cleanings, system maintenance, and weekly water quality analysis. The position includes exposure to live feeds culture maintenance as well as assisting our Hatchery Manager in our larval fish hatchery as needed.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
- Feed preparation/distribution
- Daily assessments of fish health
- Collection and enumeration of broodstock fish eggs
- Scrubbing/cleaning/siphoning tanks
- Water testing/analysis and data entry
- Assist Broodstock manager as other duties arise
Secondary Responsibilities & Duties
- Sampling and enumeration of live feeds including but not limited to microalgae, rotifers, artemia
- Assist Hatchery manager with daily tasks as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- BS in scientific field (marine science preferred) and/or a minimum of 2 years of experience with broodstock population care and maintenance
- Able to work Sunday – Thursday schedule
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, pay attention to detail, and work efficiently without affecting quality of work
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 60 lbs
- Ability to work in warm/humid environment
