Position Overview
We’re seeking a detail‐oriented Payroll Manager to lead our payroll function and ensure flawless, compliant delivery of payroll services for a diverse portfolio of multi‐state clients. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you’ll supervise a team of payroll specialists, refine processes, and act as the go‐to expert both internally and for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- End‐to‐End Payroll Processing
- Oversee on‐cycle and off‐cycle payroll for 8,000 employees across 8 states
- Validate time entries, deductions, garnishments, and manage ACH/wire transfers
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain up‐to‐date knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws (FLSA, ACA, COBRA, etc.)
- Prepare and file quarterly/annual payroll tax returns; coordinate audits and client inquiries
- Team Leadership
- Mentor and manage three payroll specialists, providing training, feedback, and career development
- Establish performance goals, conduct reviews, and encourage process‐driven excellence
- Process Improvement & Systems
- Collaborate with IT and implementation teams to optimize our payroll platform
- Document standard operating procedures, identify automation opportunities, and drive efficiency
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as primary payroll liaison for client escalations, special projects, and complex issues
- Coordinate with HR, benefits, and sales teams to ensure seamless, integrated service
Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
- Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll experience
- Prior PEO or multi‐state payroll experience strongly preferred
- Technical Skills
- Proficient with major payroll systems
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros)
