Key Responsibilities:
- Project Review: Analyze and interpret project plans, specifications, and other documents to fully understand the scope of work.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, determining the amount of materials and resources required for the project.
- Cost Estimation: Develop comprehensive cost estimates, factoring in labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare bid proposals and submit competitive bids in line with project timelines and requirements.
- Supplier/Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, review bids, and ensure all pricing is accurate and within scope.
- Budget Management: Work with project managers and engineers to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and cost controls for projects.
- Risk Analysis: Identify potential risks and areas for cost reduction or optimization during the estimating process.
- Documentation: Maintain organized and accurate records of estimates, proposals, and other project-related documents for future reference.
- Value Engineering: Participate in value engineering discussions to improve efficiency and reduce costs while maintaining quality standards.
- Market Trends: Stay updated on market trends, including changes in material prices, labor rates, and construction technologies.
- Client Interaction: Occasionally meet with clients, architects, or consultants to discuss project requirements, provide estimate clarification, or present bids.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in civil construction estimating, including site development, roads, earthworks, drainage systems, and utilities.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, labor, and equipment costs.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar platforms).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering plans, and specifications.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under tight deadlines.
- Experience with cost control techniques and financial planning in civil construction.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal construction regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of project scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6).
- Primarily office-based, with occasional visits to construction sites to assess conditions or meet with project stakeholders.
