Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Technician to join our team in Petersburg, VA. This role requires extensive hands-on experience with PLC systems, DCS programming software, and troubleshooting electrical control systems across multiple industrial environments. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, think critically under pressure, and effectively communicate with customers.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Travel to industrial plants and customer sites to troubleshoot and resolve control system issues, often without schematics or documentation.
- Work directly with customers, providing expert technical support and clear communication to diagnose and solve automation challenges.
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain control systems such as PLC, DCS, instrumentation, etc.
- Diagnose and repair issues with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), motor controls, breaker control circuits, and other industrial electrical components.
- Install, commission, and calibrate control panels, instrumentation, and automation equipment.
- Ensure compliance with industrial safety standards, including LOTO, arc flash safety, and NEC regulations.
- Analyze system failures and implement solutions to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Modify PLC programs to optimize system performance and adapt to evolving customer needs.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and plant personnel to implement system improvements and upgrades.
The ideal candidate should possess:
- 5 years of electrical and controls experience in an industrial setting (preferred).
- Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills (Rockwell Automation required; Siemens, Modicon, or other platforms a plus).
