Key Responsibilities:
- Material Management:
- Plan, coordinate, and manage the logistics of materials from suppliers to production or distribution centers.
- Monitor and ensure optimal inventory levels are maintained to meet production and customer demand.
- Coordinate with procurement, production, and warehouse teams to manage material requirements.
- Develop strategies to reduce material waste, inefficiencies, and cost while maintaining quality and service levels.
- Logistics & Distribution:
- Oversee transportation, warehousing, and distribution processes to ensure materials and products are delivered on time and in optimal condition.
- Manage third-party logistics (3PL) service providers and negotiate contracts with carriers to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery.
- Optimize transportation routes, reduce lead times, and improve distribution efficiency through continuous process improvements.
- Inventory Control:
- Implement inventory control policies and procedures to manage material flow effectively.
- Conduct regular audits of stock levels to ensure accuracy and accountability.
- Identify and mitigate risks of material shortages or surpluses.
- Team Management:
- Lead, train, and supervise a logistics team, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Set performance metrics and KPIs for the logistics team, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
- Foster a collaborative working environment to enhance communication across departments, such as procurement, production, and finance.
- Supplier & Vendor Management:
- Collaborate with procurement teams to source materials from reliable suppliers.
- Maintain strong relationships with key vendors to ensure timely and quality deliveries.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to material availability or quality.
- Process Improvement & Technology:
- Utilize logistics and supply chain management software (e.g., ERP, WMS, TMS) to monitor, analyze, and optimize material movement.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives, such as lean logistics or automation, to improve efficiency.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies that can improve material logistics processes.
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure all logistics operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards.
- Prepare and present reports on material movement, logistics performance, inventory levels, and cost analysis.
- Develop and monitor budgets for the logistics department and ensure adherence to financial targets.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., APICS, CLTD, PMP) is a plus.
- Experience:
- 5 years of experience in material logistics, supply chain management, or related fields.
- Proven experience managing logistics operations, inventory control, and material handling in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of logistics, supply chain management principles, and material flow optimization.
- Proficiency in logistics software (ERP systems, WMS, TMS).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Analytical mindset with a problem-solving attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- This role may require travel between different company locations or to vendor sites.
- The position may involve working in a warehouse or manufacturing environment, with exposure to varied working conditions.
