Mechanical Superintendent – Food & Beverage Industry

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Mechanical Superintendent with proven experience in the food and beverage industry. The ideal candidate will oversee mechanical construction activities, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards. This role requires hands on (sleeves rolled up) skills, strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Oversight:
    • Plan and supervise and coordinate mechanical construction activities, including installation of piping systems, testing, and commissioning of equipment.
    • Ensure work is performed according to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical technicians, foremen, and subcontractors.
    • Ensure team compliance with safety protocols and company standards.
  • Quality Control:
    • Perform inspections to ensure mechanical systems meet project requirements and industry standards.
    • Address and resolve any quality or performance issues promptly.
  • Safety Management:
    • Enforce safety policies and conduct daily safety briefings with the team.
    • Identify potential hazards and implement effective mitigation measures.
  • Scheduling and Coordination:
    • Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of mechanical scopes of work.
    • Coordinate with other trades and project managers to optimize workflow and resolve conflicts.
  • Cost Control:
    • Approve and track material purchases and labor hours.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including progress reports, safety incidents, and equipment maintenance.
    • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders regarding status updates and challenges.
Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience as a mechanical superintendent or similar role in the food and beverage industry.
  • Technical Knowledge: Expertise in piping systems, sanitary systems, refrigeration, and food-grade equipment installation.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, resolve conflicts, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Safety Certifications: OSHA 30 or equivalent; familiarity with safety standards in food and beverage facilities.
  • Education: High School Diploma, with on the job trade hands on experience
  • Other Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in construction management software.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with industry regulations (FDA, USDA, and GMP compliance).
  • Experience with automated systems and robotics in food processing facilities.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
