QSSI, Inc. is seeking a Commercial / Industrial Design Engineer (ideally specializing in Electrical and Lighting) to join the growing USA Manufacturing Division in Oldsmar, FL. With nearly forty years of experience, we work hard to ensure our products are designed and manufactured to exceed our client's high expectations. With the launch of our new 3-D printing ballads and fixtures, we seek a highly motivated Commercial / Industrial Design Engineer to research new design concepts, create conceptual design packages, conduct testing and quality assurance of new products, and support manufacturing, installation, and set-up.

As a Commercial / Industrial Design Engineer for Electrical and Lighting, you will work independently and as part of a team with other engineers on the development of standard and prototype equipment that will be manufactured to meet customers' needs. Research, develop, design, and test electrical components, equipment, and systems to match client specifications, including switchgear, auxiliary components from 480V to 15kV, automatic transfer schemes, standby generators and paralleling equipment, motor control centers, transformers, and UPS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development of engineering designs and documentation using ASME standards, performs testing as needed, and documents results with support of more experienced team members.
  • Contributes to review / documentation of changes proposed by Manufacturing, Purchasing and Suppliers including material obsolescence evaluations.
  • Evaluates use of non-conforming parts, processes and assemblies to determine their usability in the product while ensuring that the quality and functionality of the product will be maintained.
  • Create project submittals and shop drawings.
  • Participates in overall engineering activities as needed.
  • Follows company procedures and regulations.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties as required for the position.

Requirements :

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related degree, from an accredited institution plus at least three years in a design or manufacturing environment.
  • Technical background in understanding product design, production processing, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical design, machining, and working in the lighting industry is preferred.
  • Ability to read / understand prints, routings, bill of materials and process sheets.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply Engineering Design Standards.
  • Understanding electrical circuits, various machining, and manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
  • Ability to create, read, or modify layout drawings, schematics, wiring and interconnection diagrams
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office and AutoCAD; experience with MRP and SolidWorks a plus
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision; possess a willingness to take on additional responsibilities presented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, Effective in an entrepreneurial culture, working independently and as part of a team.
