Payrate: $36.00/hr plus. plus $10.00/hr per diem
Schedule: 6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday - Friday
MUST PASS A 90 DAY DRUG TEST AND A 10 YEAR BACKGROUND CHECK.

Position Summary:
An Inside Machinist consists of setting up and operating conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. They select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
Qualifications:
- Five years minimum experience as an Inside-Shop Machinist.
- Confined space trained in accordance with OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE*) training in accordance with OSHA Standards 29CFR 1915 Subpart I and Hearing Conversation 29CFT 1910.95 (i) (j) (k) (l).
- Non-prescription and prescription safety glasses must meet the requirements of ANSI Z87, with permanently attached side shields.
- Hard Hats must be WHITE in color with the Leased Labor Provider Company's name and the individual's last name on the front of the Hard Hat. All Leased Labor personnel engaged in Welding must wear either the Fiber Metal Type 1 Class C or the MSA Skullgard Class A Hard Hat only.
- Hearing protection must be of the muff type (banded or mounted) and must have been trained on their use. Newport News uses the Bilsom Leightning (model L1N).
- Audiometric testing which documents proof of individual worker's hearing function. The Leased Labor Provider Company shall ensure those individuals performing audiometric testing meet requirements listed in OSHA Regulation 29CFR1910.95 (g) (3) and that the audiometric test results are fully explained to each individual by the testing firm. The individual shall sign the test reports as proof of having received verbal communication of the test results.
- The physical work effort expected is demanding. The temperature and humidity extremes that may be encountered are the result of ambient temperature and humidity levels in the work area. * PPE training means general requirements, eye and face protection, head protection, foot protection, hand and body protection, hearing protection and body harness-personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and position device systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Possess the ability to inspect confined spaces, stooping, bending, crawling, and climb when required. Demonstrated basic computer skills are required. Ability to read a blueprint.
Recommended Skills:
- Safety orientated.
- Very Proficient with Numerical Controlled Processes, Manual Data Input, Tooling Offsets, Conversation Controllers, etc.
- Very proficient in operating Manual and/or NC machines such as: lathes, mills, horizontal & vertical machining centers, EDMs, etc.
- Proficient with controllers such as: Fanuc, Siemens, Acramatic, Cincinnati-Milacron, etc.
- Proficient with the use of precision measuring instruments: outside/inside micrometers, depth mics, verniers, etc.
- Proficient with threading and the various measuring/gauging requirements Drilling/tapping processes.
- Very Familiar with carbide machining processes v Ability to comprehend complex mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Very Strong math skills v Machinist or Tool & Die Apprenticeship Required Safety Training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and measure using the metric system.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems that may arise in certain situations.
SAFETY:
Must comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations while performing daily job tasks.
