The Director of Engineering Is responsible for planning and directing all engineering activities within Quanex Access Solutions’ North American division. This position has oversight for all aspects of the engineering process, testing and provides leadership with information to support capital investment decisions. Ensures that all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organization's established policies and objectives and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.

What Success Looks Like:
- Identify and support capital reinvestment for all sites within the division.
- Contribute to the development of the strategic and operating plan for a division. This position facilitates and recommends annual capital budgets to the leadership team.
- Direct the implementation of the engineering related components of the division’s strategic and operational plans.
- Oversee research and development work in engineering and related areas, involving collaborative efforts with sales, marketing, finance, contract prototype shop, manufacturing, etc.
- Manage and present design proposals for discussion and evaluation with management, customers, vendors, trade organizations and groups.
- Direct and monitor all activities relating to the functions and responsibilities of engineering.
- Oversee operations of Engineering/Drafting/Estimating Departments to assure customer satisfaction and staff motivation.
- Oversee product quality to ensure that all products comply with Company established standards and specifications.
- Oversee code compliance and ensure that our products are in compliance with all current codes and standards.
- Oversee the application process for patents for all new products or product modifications.
- Respond to any product liability claims, producing necessary documentation.
- Develop annual and project-based operating budgets for the activities and needs of engineering.
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Direct the preparation, execution, and release of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and the maintenance of engineering system documentation.
- Create and sustain a culture of talent development, effective performance management, and accountability.
- Establish and communicate clear and measurable expectations of performance and provide frequent feedback to ensure the achievement of goals and personal development for employees.
Your Credentials:
- Four-year degree in engineering or related discipline.
- Fifteen or more years of progressive experience in engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
- Minimum of five years in a leadership role.
- Knowledge of building materials industry preferred.
- Ability to operate efficiently with a CAD environment. Knowledge of SolidWorks is a plus.
- Strong skills in using MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
The salary range for this position is $160K to $185K w/ bonus potential.
