POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Accounting Supervisor will provide strategic direction and oversee key financial processes to ensure compliance with GAAP, DCAA, SOX, and FAR for a construction company specializing in federal contracts. This role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and controls that safeguard company assets and accurately reflect financial results. The Accounting Supervisor will provide leadership in supervising General Ledger, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Treasury, and Tax functions while ensuring seamless information flow for accounting, forecasting, and analysis purposes. Additionally, the role will support financial planning, project cost tracking, and working capital management while driving efficiency and process improvements. This position reports to the Controller and serves as a key liaison between Accounting, Operations, and Corporate.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS/DUTIES:
- Provide strategic direction and accountability for the development and deployment of financial and reporting processes that ensure compliance with GAAP, DCAA, SOX, and FAR.
- Oversee all aspects of the accounting, tax, and internal control functions, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting.
- Develop, implement, and maintain company processes and procedures to safeguard enterprise assets and ensure accurate financial representation.
- Ensure accurate and timely interpretation of GAAP, DCAA, and SOX compliance standards and incorporate interpretations into financial records.
- Supervise daily operations of the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial transactions.
- Oversee G/L, Payroll, A/R, A/P, Treasury, and Tax functions, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities, including preparing and/or reviewing journal entries and reconciliations, preparing financial statements and other reporting deliverables.
- Support executive-level financial reporting and analysis to aid management decision-making, providing insight on revenue, project cost, indirect cost, and SG&A trends.
- Responsible for financial forecasting, including revenue, margin, indirect cost, SG&A, and capital spend projections (cash forecast).
- Lead the preparation of budgets, variance analyses, and financial planning to align with company strategic objectives.
- Provide financial and contractual decision-making support for sales and proposal efforts.
- Partner with Operations and other departments to analyze project margins while improving project cost tracking and reporting processes.
- Oversee, report, and analyze working capital metrics, focusing on timely customer billing and accounts receivable collection.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors and government agencies on financial audits, tax filings, and compliance reviews.
- Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to accounting staff, fostering professional growth and development.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and financial analysis as needed to support business objectives.
- Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or managerial experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR, DCAA compliance, and SOX controls, particularly in a government contracting environment.
- Experience in construction accounting and/or federal contract compliance is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, with strong Excel skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to oversee multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and effectively supervise a team.
