Job summary
The Rail Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager to efficiently control the safety and productivity of inbound/outbound rail car throughput to meet customer demands through direct supervision of the rail/container yard.
Job Requirements
Responsibilities
- Ensuring that all safety rules and regulations are observed and followed.
- Responsible for the daily safety inspections of rail yard and equipment.
- Ensure quarterly preventative maintenance of rail equipment are scheduled/completed
- Maintaining monthly track/yard inspections
- Oversee the daily receiving and shipping of rail cars on site.
- Responsible for scheduling rail car movement within the yard based on in transit report, yard capacity, and production needs.
- Must be able to navigate external Rail service provider’s websites.
- Scheduling all rail employees to maintain efficient and accurate production of the rail site.
- Communicate company policy, procedures, and methods to the rail employees
- Investigate any unsafe conditions, near misses, and initiate corrective action immediately.
- Ensuring all rail cars are within the clear points on each track and brakes are set based on capacity/car count(s) though out the yard.
- Conduct any coaching, counseling and reviews of associates.
- Responsible for the training all rail associates in both classroom setting and on the job.
Minimum requirements
- Associate degree or bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years leadership experience
- Minimum of 2 years railroad experience.
- Efficient in all Microsoft office tools
- Knowledge of safe working practice in an industrial area
- Working knowledge of track mobiles and/or locomotives
- A proven track record of safety, performance and leadership
Special Position requirements
- Must have strong communication and leadership skills.
