What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pathology Support Specialist position at Quantum Pathology?
Quantum Pathology is an independent anatomic pathology laboratory looking for a Pathology Support Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for transcribing pathology reports, working closely with our team of pathologists to ensure accurate and timely reporting. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, be detail-oriented and possess the ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transcribe preliminary and final diagnoses (written or dictated) in laboratory information system
- Proofread all case material to verify accuracy and identify errors
- Order additional tests or levels at the request of the diagnosing pathologist or ordering provider
- Contact clients as needed for additional or corrected information
- Proper slide distribution to pathologists
- Retrieve historical slides or blocks as needed for pathologist review or send-out
- Prepare cases materials to be sent out for consultation or additional testing
- Monitor and package hard copy reports for distribution via courier, or other means
- Assist with various aspects of the internal quality control process
- Answer phones and properly address or route calls
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area
- Comply with HIPAA, CLIA, and DPH guidelines
- Assist with other duties as delegated
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong typing skills (minimum 60 wpm)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Attention to detail and aptitude for accuracy
- Able to work in a face-paced environment
- Troubleshooting and problem solving
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a team environment
- Dependability and punctuality
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Education: High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Experience: Previous medical/pathology transcription experience preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $30.00 per hour
