Overview

The Senior Cloud Architect is a key technical contributor responsible for designing and optimizing cloud infrastructure to support roadside tolling solutions. This role focuses on architecting scalable, secure, and resilient cloud environments that enable seamless integration between roadside tolling systems, edge devices, and back-office platforms.

Operating as a senior-level individual contributor, the Cloud Architect applies deep technical expertise to develop solutions that ensure reliable, real-time data exchange, accurate transaction processing, and compliance with industry standards. This role partners closely with engineering, product, and operations teams, providing technical leadership and guidance without direct people management responsibilities. The Cloud Architect plays a critical role in advancing the company’s intelligent transportation and tolling initiatives through cloud-native innovation and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Cloud Architecture & Design
  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient cloud architectures to support roadside delivery platforms.
  • Develop integration solutions for connecting roadside units (RSUs), edge devices, and transportation management systems with cloud environments.
  • Architect data pipelines for real-time ingestion, processing, and storage of transportation data, ensuring performance and reliability.
  • Continuously assess and refine cloud designs to align with evolving business and technical requirements.
  • Security, Compliance & Governance
  • Implement cloud security measures, including encryption, identity management, and access controls, ensuring compliance with industry regulations (e.g., NIST, ISO, transportation standards).
  • Support audits and security assessments by providing cloud architecture documentation and expertise.
  • Contribute to the development of cloud governance policies and standards, particularly around data privacy and V2X communication protocols.
  • Technical Collaboration & Leadership
  • Serve as a key technical resource and advisor to software engineers, DevOps teams, and product stakeholders.
  • Lead architecture reviews and provide guidance on cloud best practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new cloud technologies or services that enhance roadside delivery capabilities.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in cross-team discussions, offering deep technical insight without formal people management duties.
  • Operations & Continuous Improvement
  • Support cloud migration initiatives and infrastructure improvements, ensuring smooth deployment of roadside systems.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize cloud environments to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates and documentation to streamline operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cloud cost efficiency and system scalability.

Qualifications

Other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7 years of hands-on experience in cloud architecture, design, and implementation using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Proven expertise in designing hybrid cloud and edge computing solutions, ideally in real-time or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of networking, IoT connectivity, cybersecurity principles, and cloud governance.
  • Proficiency in:
  • Containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation.
  • Experience working with real-time telemetry data, transportation systems, or V2X communication protocols is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with transportation industry standards and compliance requirements (e.g., NIST, ISO, ITS standards) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to influence and guide technical teams through expertise—not direct management.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts to cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of roadside hardware (RSUs, sensors, communication protocols like DSRC, C-V2X).
  • Experience working with real-time telemetry data and transportation data standards.
  • Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent.
