The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the Detroit Riverfront into a world-class public space. Since its founding in 2003, the Conservancy has led the development, maintenance, and programming of the Detroit Riverwalk, Dequindre Cut, and surrounding green spaces, welcoming more than three million visitors annually.
In 2025, the Conservancy will open Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park, a 22-acre park featuring dynamic recreational spaces, event programming, and public gathering areas. To support this expansion, the Conservancy is seeking a Park Manager to oversee daily operations, maintenance, and facility management for the new park.
The Park Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park and its surrounding areas. This role involves maintenance oversight, vendor and contractor management, budgeting, and staff supervision. The Park Manager will report to the Vice President of Operations and Programming and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to maintain a high standard of park operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and execute daily park operations, including routine and preventative maintenance and general repairs.
- Manage and coordinate third-party vendors and contractors, including security and maintenance services.
- Hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff to support park operations.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and inventory management systems.
- Track and manage operational budgets.
- Support the setup and breakdown of community events, programs, and special initiatives.
- Ensure all facilities comply with safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Assist with maintenance and oversight of other West Riverfront properties, including the Southwest Greenway and Riverwalk.
- Collaborate with the Operations and Programming teams to develop and improve maintenance protocols.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in facilities management, park operations, construction, or skilled trades
- Strong knowledge of building systems, preventative maintenance, and general repair work, including plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Experience managing staff, third-party vendors, and maintenance contracts
- Proficiency in budget management and financial tracking
- Knowledge of safety standards and compliance requirements for public spaces
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to lift 30 - 35 pounds and work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings as needed
