What are the responsibilities and job description for the Arborist position at Queen City Silviculture?
Queen City Silviculture is a family owned tree service that specializes in rope and saddle/aerial lift access to prune or remove trees in and around the Shenandoah Valley. Crew members assist crew leader and second climber with production while upholding safe work practices and learning the trade.
Responsibilities:
Team is responsible for safe production of Arboriculture techniques in the Urban Landscape.
Tasks include:
- Pruning of small, large and very large trees and/or shrubs.
- Take downs of dead, declining or possibly hazardous trees.
- Working in the built environment.
- Perform physically at a high level in adverse weather conditions for up to ten or more hours a day.
- Work in a safe and responsible manner, give and receive feedback, participate in daily safety meetings.
- Impeccable maintenance of fleet machinery/tools.
Competencies:
- 2 or more years of climbing experience on a Tree Crew (rock climbing or other aerial work can count towards this requirement).
- Always on time.
- Physically fit and tough minded; capable of lifting/dragging 75 lbs repetitively.
- Has own, reliable transportation and a valid VA driver’s license.
- Has own smartphone with email.
- Physically able to work outdoors all year long.
- Non-tobacco user.
- Family oriented.
- 2 or more years of climbing experience on a Tree crew (rock climbing or other aerial work can count towards this requirement).
Advanced Competencies:
- Class A or Class B CDL
- First Aid/CPR Certified
- ISA Certified Arborist
- TCIA Certified Climber
- Ability to drive a manual transmission truck.
Skills of interest:
- Experience with native/naturalized plants in the Valley.
- Outdoor Leadership Training.
- Rock Climbing.
- Farming/Gardening
Terms:
- Position is Full Time - 4 days a week M-Th; average work day is 9 hours( /-).
Hours increase during storm response and can change due to weather.
- Compensation: $21-$35/hour based on experience.
