Position Summary:

Queen of Peace Catholic School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Resource Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in a resource room setting. The Resource Teacher will collaborate closely with general education teachers, parents, and other support staff to develop and implement Individualized Service Plans (ISPs)1 that address the unique learning needs of each student and promote their academic, social, and emotional growth. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of special education best practices, differentiated instruction, and effective behavior management strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Direct Instruction: Deliver individualized and small-group instruction in academic areas (e.g., reading, writing, mathematics) and/or social-emotional skills to students with disabilities based on their ISP goals.

  • Develop and Implement ISPs: Collaborate with the ISP team (including parents, general education teachers, related service providers, and administrators) to develop, review, and revise high-quality, measurable ISPs.

  • Adapt and Modify Curriculum: Modify and adapt general education curriculum, materials, and instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.

  • Assess Student Progress: Regularly assess student progress towards ISP goals using a variety of methods, including formal and informal assessments, observations, and data collection.

  • Collaborate with General Education Teachers: Work collaboratively with general education teachers to integrate students with disabilities into the general education classroom and provide support for inclusive practices.

  • Communicate with Parents/Guardians: Maintain regular and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, ISP goals, and school-related matters.

  • Manage Resource Room Environment: Create and maintain a positive, organized, and supportive learning environment in the resource room.

  • Utilize Assistive Technology: Integrate assistive technology and other accommodations to support student learning and access to the curriculum.

  • Provide Consultation and Support: Serve as a resource to general education teachers and other staff members regarding strategies for working with students with disabilities.

  • Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including ISPs, progress reports, and assessment data.

  • Participate in Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in special education best practices.

  • Adhere to Policies and Procedures: Follow all school, district, state, and federal policies and procedures related to special education.

  • Supervise Paraprofessionals (if applicable): Provide guidance and support to paraprofessionals assigned to work with students in the resource room.

  • Perform Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Special Education Director.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field is required.

    • Master's degree in Special Education is preferred.

  • Certification/Licensure:

    • Valid Indiana Professional Educator License with Special Education endorsement (e.g., Mild Intervention, Intense Intervention) is required.

  • Experience:

    • Some years of experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting is preferred.

    • Experience developing and implementing ISPs is required.

    • Experience with a variety of disabilities and instructional strategies is highly desirable.

  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other relevant special education laws and regulations.

    • Knowledge of various assessment tools and methods for evaluating student progress.

    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.

    • Effective classroom management and positive behavior support skills.

    • Proficiency in using technology for instruction, assessment, and record-keeping.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Strong organizational and time management skills.

    • Demonstrated commitment to the success and well-being of all students.
