What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher (Quest)-SY25-26 position at Quest Elementary/Middle School?
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Appropriate DESE license and endorsement as required by the applicable SSEC program or
• Waiver eligible (possession of a bachelor's degree).
• Must be able and willing to physically manage and/or lift students.
Preferred:
• Experience working with students in a school setting with academic, behavioral, and/or emotional challenges, learning or developmental disabilities, or autism preferred.
• Eligible for &D licensure (training provided)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrate common teaching competencies as defined by the Department of Education.
2. Evaluate each student’s skills and develop an IEP with the team based upon results and experience.
3. Use instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for implementing goals and objectives of students’ IEP.
4. Design and implement appropriate behavioral programs for students when necessary.
5. Coordinate all classroom activities and develop an organized classroom schedule.
6. Develop a positive classroom environment that meets diverse students’ needs..
7. Consistently implement instructional methods and develop maturity and skill level of students.
8. Ensure that curriculum frameworks set forth by Collaborative and DOE are met and integrated into the students’ IEP.
9. Coordinate with all support specialists (OT,PT, Speech Therapists, Adaptive PE, Assistive Technology Team) to provide a comprehensive service delivery program for each child.
10. Develop appropriate assessment and alternative strategies to assess accomplishments of students on a regular basis; provide written reports, and other reports as needed.
11. Maintain regular contact with students' Home and Community based teams.
12. Assist students with activities of daily living
13. Collaborate with student teams to develop inclusion opportunities within the community.
14. Initiate and participate in educationally relevant field trips with appropriate supervision of students.
15. Drive school vans as needed.(7D driver’s license required, training available)
16. Physically manage and/or lift students when necessary.
17. Participate in all required in-service training
18. Assist the Program Director in the intake of a student referral and the transition of a student from the program.
19. Follow all policies and procedures as established by the South Shore Educational Collaborative
20. Use de-escalation, protective measures, and physical management techniques (including lifting and moving) as prescribed in SSEC approved physical management training programs when appropriate with students.
21. Maintain confidentiality regarding information for all SSEC staff, students, and their families.
22. Direct daily activities of paraprofessionals assigned to their classroom.
23. Serve as a contributing evaluator of other classroom staff as needed.
24. Perform other duties as assigned by the program director/coordinator.
Mandatory participation in all of the following SSEC-sponsored training to include but not limited to:
1. Successful completion of SSEC-approved Welle training, full and/or recertification annually as appropriate.
2. Maintain active CPR/First Aid certification.
3. Successful completion of all SSEC-approved threat assessment training.
