Certified Medical Assistant
Job Summary: Assists physicians, nurse practitioners, and other medical staff by performing administrative and clinical duties. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and protocols and complying with all applicable legal regulations. Interacts directly with patients as well responding to phone calls from patients, physicians, pharmacies. Keeps patient information confidential by completing and safeguarding medical records.
General duties include, but are not limited to:
- Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations; Assist physician, nurse practitioners, and physician assistant as needed in exam rooms.
- Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filled out and available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment
- Escort patients to exam rooms, obtain and document medical history, administer and document patient vital signs.
- Draws blood, removes sutures, changes dressings as directed by supervising physician.
- Disinfects, cleans treatment rooms following every patient appointment; prepares sterilization as required; Properly disposes of contaminated supplies.
- Maintains sufficient stock of medical supplies by tracking receipt and use of inventory.
- Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, etc.)
- Take telephone messages and respond accordingly to patient/providers/pharmacy calls.
- Assist with scheduling appointments and record maintenance as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification
- CPR certification
- Minimum 1 year experience as MA in medical practice.
- Experience and knowledge of EMR systems, MS Word, Excel, MS outlook, MS teams.
- Excellent verbal communication skills: Ability to orally communicate effectively with patients.
- Excellent written communication skills: Ability to write legibly, using correct grammar, spelling skills, and content.
- Ability to use a multi-line phone system; Pleasant and professional phone demeanor, providing service to callers as needed.
- Able to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to adapt to changes quickly and without resistance.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and accomplish assigned tasks in allotted time
- Knowledgeable in the fields of medicine, anatomy, and physiology; possess the ability to understand the theories, reasons, and technical aspects of medicine.
- Bilingual-English/Spanish preferred
Physical Job Requirements:
- Routinely required to sit.
- Routinely required to walk.
- Routinely required to use hands, with ability to reach using arms
- Routinely required to lift moderate weights (25-50 pounds).
- Requires strong finger dexterity as well as hand coordination
- Requires use of sight for close and distant vision
