Job Summary: The I.T. Computer Technician provides on-site technical support and assistance to various schools within our system, requiring frequent travel to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technology-related issues. Working closely with school staff and the central I.T. team, they ensure the efficient operation of computer systems, peripherals, and network infrastructure. The technician also contributes to the helpdesk, desktop support, networking, and Windows Server maintenance. Their responsibilities encompass monitoring, operating, assisting, and training others in hardware, software, and peripheral operations. With a primary focus on delivering technology services to staff and students of Quincy Public Schools, they ensure smooth service delivery district-wide.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting for computer systems, peripherals, audio-visual equipment, and network infrastructure at various school locations.
Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues across a range of devices including, but not limited to desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, iPads, Macs, printers, interactive whiteboards, projectors, and network devices.
Install, configure, and maintain computer systems and peripherals to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.
Collaborate with the IT team to resolve complex technical problems and escalate issues when necessary.
Assist with the deployment and setup of new hardware and software following established procedures and guidelines.
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as updates, patches, and system optimizations.
Maintain accurate records of hardware and software inventory, repairs, and service tickets using the designated ticketing system.
Conduct training sessions and provide guidance to end-users on the effective use of technology resources.
Collaborate with vendors and external service providers to coordinate repairs, warranty claims, and equipment replacements.
Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends, making recommendations for improvements and upgrades.
Monitor the ticketing system and respond to staff/student requests promptly.
Monitor and perform system tasks using Windows Server, including Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Deployment, Windows Server Update Services, and Microsoft Exchange Console.
Provide support for interactive technology software.
Troubleshoot network connectivity at WAN and LAN levels, forwarding unresolved issues to the City of Quincy IT Department.
Maintain an accurate list of Static IP addresses in each school building to ensure undisrupted operations.
Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes using Windows Server Update Services.
Install and configure software based on staff and student needs.
Manage and maintain Active Directory objects, such as adding, removing, and updating user account information and resetting passwords.
Build and configure Windows settings using Group Policy Management.
Build and deploy Windows Images using Windows Deployment Services.
Manage network printers through print management and group policy.
Update distribution groups and create new user mailboxes in Microsoft Exchange Console.
Build, configure, deploy, and maintain mobile devices using various MDM software.
Distribute and set up multimedia equipment for auditoriums, event spaces, and conference rooms, including document cameras, microphones, projectors, screens, and additional multimedia devices.
Provide training and mentorship to interns and new staff joining the IT department.
Serve as Technology Coordinators during state online exams, ensuring proper technical and system setup for online testing and collaborating on any local system issues.
Provide limited application support for cloud-based applications such as Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and other specific software.
Maintain and update Sophos Enterprise Console and Sophos Endpoint Security to ensure all systems are up-to-date.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Principal, and/or the Technical Supervisor
Qualifications:
BA/BS or equivalent with 1-2 years of experience providing technical support in a professional setting with a diverse user community, including at least two years of helpdesk experience.
Background in higher education is desirable, as are other industry-standard hardware/software certifications (i.e. CompTIA, Google, CISCO, Microsoft, Dell, etc.)
Must possess excellent written communication skills.
Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to manage stress and work in a timely manner.
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills with a strong dedication to customer service
Experience working in a managed enterprise technology environment.
Experience working with video and audio conferencing technology.
Knowledge of Windows Server and Mail Exchange Console.
Knowledge in administering Active Directory Domain Services and Group Policies.
Possess a valid MA Driving License.
Have a reliable vehicle for transportation.
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
Environmental Conditions:
The I.T. Computer Technician will be assigned a weekly schedule and will need to manage a number of projects at one time. Technicians may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of staff. The I.T. Computer Technician will need excellent organizational, time, and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.
Work Schedule:
In-person Fifty-two (52) weeks, with applicable contractual holidays and vacations.
Salary:
Salary will be at Level 1 of the current agreement between the Quincy School Committee and the Quincy Educational Employees Union. Salary range is $70,000-$75,000 based on education and experience.
