General Statement
Patrol campus buildings, grounds and adjacent areas of the College; enforce State laws as well as the rules and regulations of the College; deliver confidential/sensitive material; perform related work as required. The Training Officer Under general supervision, prepares, facilitates, monitors, evaluates and documents legal justice and safety training activities within the Police Department; and other related work as required. Responsible for the ongoing identification of trainings needs for Public Safety and the Police Department. Utilizing a variety of techniques, will work with Police staff to address departmentwide training issues, identify training resources, and organize training events.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrols the buildings and grounds of the College and adjacent areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle to ensure the security of buildings and grounds and to guard against trespass, theft, damage to property, fire and injury to individuals.
- Maintains order amongst visitors and students; directs traffic and parking of automobiles; provides information as needed.
- Exercises police powers in the detection and apprehension of law violators; investigates accidents and complaints.
- Prepares reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents occurring during tours of duty; Passes on all important information regarding incidents that happen on tour of duty to relief officer.
- Operates such equipment as two-way radios, radio-telephone interconnect, telephone beeper, facsimile machines, base stations, emergency and medical equipment and office machines.
- Cooperates and shares information with related agencies.
- Determines whether violation has occurred and what course of action to follow (e.g., arrest, warning, call for assistance, etc.); interrogates suspects.
- Determines course of action to be taken in emergency situations.
- Locks or unlocks doors, gates, etc.
- Recommends protective measures to prevent vandalism, fire or other hazardous situations.
- Perform other duties consistent with Massachusetts Department of Personnel Administration Classification Specifications for Campus Police Officer I.
- Plans, organizes and implements all aspects of training needs for new and existing staff..
- Identifies internal and external training programs to address competency gaps.
- Partners with internal stakeholders regarding employee training needs.
- Organizes, develops and sources training programs to meet specific identified training needs.
- Assesses departmental needs and meets the needs by aligning with subject matter experts to design instruction.
- Develops training visual aids, manuals, handbooks and reference resources.
- Informs and communicates staff training options and sources.
- Provides guidance to individual employees on training plans and resources
- Presents and facilitates training programs using recognized training techniques and tools.
- Facilitates learning through a wide variety of delivery methods including classroom instruction, virtual training, just in time training and on the job coaching.
- Designs assessment tools to measure training effectiveness and reports assessment and designs benchmarks for future training effectiveness.
- Tracks all training needs, attendance and training outcomes.
- Provides feedback to program participants and management
- Evaluates and makes recommendations on training material, resources and methodology
- Maintains employee training records and on-going training needs.
- Coordinates and handles training logistics and activities including venues and equipment.
- Coordinates off-site training activities for department staff.
- Manages and oversees training budget
- Stays current on training design, methods and technology.
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Assists department staff with training plans and make recommendations for training; ensure that staff complies with P.O.S.T, MPTC standards and SSPO Licensure.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles and correct usage of the English language including grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Knowledge of police procedures and practices and fire prevention methods.
- Knowledge of law of arrest and criminal procedures in lower courts.
- Knowledge of guarding procedures.
- Ability to maintain student discipline, deal with the public, recognize fire hazards and to walk long hours alone, indoors and out, under varying climatic conditions.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possession of a current valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
- Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer under chapter 22C, Section 63 of the Massachusetts General Laws undergoing an extensive background investigation and CORI Check.
- Must pass a police entry level psychological screening.
- Current LTC with the city or town of residency.
- Completed a full time Police Academy and/or fulltime MPTC training academy and must be POST Certifiable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the building and grounds of the College and of its rules and regulations.
- Ability to speak Spanish and/or Vietnamese.
- First responder/ CPR Certified
- Bachelorette Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- 5 Years or more of consecutive campus policing or municipal policing.
