Maintenance/Custodian Supervisor - Quitman County School District

Position Summary:

The Custodian/Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the custodial and maintenance operations of all school district facilities. This individual ensures that buildings are clean, safe, operational, and well-maintained. The supervisor will lead custodial staff, manage maintenance schedules, and perform general facility repairs while supporting a positive learning environment for students and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise and schedule all custodial staff and oversee daily cleaning operations.

• Perform routine inspections of buildings and grounds to ensure cleanliness, safety, and maintenance needs.

• Coordinate and conduct basic maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and grounds upkeep.

• Maintain inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies; order materials as needed.

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

• Respond to emergency maintenance situations and facility concerns in a timely manner.

• Collaborate with school administrators on custodial and maintenance needs and priorities.

• Maintain records of inspections, repairs, and work orders.

• Provide training and support to custodial staff and ensure quality performance.

• Ensure buildings are secure, including locking/unlocking doors and setting alarms as needed.

• Coordinate with contractors for specialized or large-scale repairs when appropriate.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Minimum 3 years of custodial or maintenance experience, with 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.

• General knowledge of facility systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical operations.

• Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment safely and effectively.

• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.

• Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively with school staff.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on ladders or in confined spaces as needed.

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:
May require evening, weekend, or emergency response hours. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
