Summary
As a member of the Maintenance Department, the Maintenance Helper assists maintenance technicians and other personnel in performing routine maintenance tasks, repairs, and installations on structures, equipment, machines, HVAC, and plumbing. Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Helper will also independently perform basic facility maintenance and safety inspections and act as a liaison to outside contractors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Assist in the inspection, installation, and repair of machinery, equipment, and buildings.
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks, such as painting, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Perform basic repairs of hand tools throughout the facility.
- Perform emergency custodial duties.
- Conduct and document basic facilities inspections as required by OSHA or company policy.
- Assist in the inventory management of maintenance supplies and tools.
- Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner.
- Support the maintenance team in various projects and tasks as needed.
- Perform occasional snow removal and landscape maintenance.
- Maintain required maintenance logs and files via an ERP based Maintenance Management System.
- Perform routine housekeeping in the department and ensure adherence to established safety procedures.
- Operate company vehicles to deliver and retrieve parts and supplies.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- Minimum of high school education or equivalent.
- One year of experience in a custodial or building maintenance position.
- General knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to complete inspection reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measure and caliper.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to operate a forklift, scissors lift, crane and a variety of hand and power tools.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- General computer skills including email and data entry.
