Entry level technicians should be able to measure and identify visual defects, execute pre-existing programs repeatably and perform basic bench checks. Level 1 technicians should be well organized to make sure higher-level technicians can follow their work and results without confusion. Print reading skills can be at a low level to begin, but should be one of the technicians’ primary focuses for skill development. Data composition and evaluation skills are reserved for more proficient Level 1 technicians.

Where we need you
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: General inspection of customer component parts for First Article Inspections, Capability Studies and Gage R&R’s. Measured data should be compiled into pre-existing forms for that part, for review by a Metrologist or Supervisor prior to sending the results.
How to convince us
Required Skills/Abilities: Print Reading – Basic understanding of print conventions and nomenclatures. The technician should be able to read and comprehend all print notes and be able to identify dimensions on a print as they relate back to features on a part. Low-level GD&T knowledge may be needed at times to perform tasks.
Bench Measurements – Proper usage of common bench measurement tools. Examples: Calipers, Micrometers, Drop Indicators, Dial Indicators and Gage Pins. The technician will learn to choose the best tool for the application with experience.
Vision System – General knowledge about lighting, magnification and manual measurements of single dimensions (features) on a print. No formal training required to perform simple daily tasks on a vision system, but gaining practice on “best use” techniques of the equipment.
CMM – The technician must be able to load and execute pre-existing programs, leaning how to load fixtures and handle parts for consistent results along the way. The technician may begin to understand some of the basic “code” in the programming for troubleshooting purposes.
Software – Level 1 technicians will begin to learn how to use Excel to compile and present data in pre-formatted company templates. All work is still to be reviewed by a higher-level technician before it is sent off to anyone outside of the Metrology Lab.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. 1-3 years of inspection experience preferred
