Job Description Job Description Position Overview : The shop foreman will be responsible for overseeing R-colds fabrication, production and shipping and receiving operations pertaining to fabrication of : Cold Storage Refrigeration Doors, Insulated sheet metal / foam panels. The shop foreman will be an integral part of the manufacturing process. They must be competent and comprehend complex operations. You should also be able to optimize day-to-day activities while minimizing the costs. Although there will be administrative tasks, floor presence is expected and required.Leadership & essential job functions :
- Oversee and lead the fabrication / production floor employees to ensure the workplace is safe, employee engagement is high, and facility is clean. Also set the example for the crew of a positive hard-working leader with exceptional attitude.
- Ensure all safety rules are followed and that all safety issues on the floor are addressed.
- Motivates the crew to work safely
- Works closely with our safety team leader to ensure training and daily safety tasks have been completed.
- Ensures proper technical training has been administered to all employees upon starting a new role. Also ensure the training has been documented.
- Ensures all new employees learn and understand company policies.
- Walk facility daily to ensure hazards have been identified and addressed.
- Active safety team member.
- Monitors daily activities for line leaders of Fabrication, doors and panel line to ensure production schedules are met and if not understand why and set a plan to get back on track. Daily reporting to Production manager to ensure issue is understood and message delivered to senior leaders.
- Work closely with panel line leader to become proficient with operating the panel line.
- Once proficient, begin the process of training a panel line lead / operator successor.
- Work closely with fabrication department to drive performance improve our current process.
- Identify cost reduction projects through modernization of our equipment.
- Drastically reduce waste.
- Ensure current equipment is maintained for peak performance and safety.
- Monitors facility daily to ensure all housekeeping and equipment PM’s have been completed.
- Restrooms sanitized, Lunchroom sanitized, building grounds clean and organized.
- Work with production manager to ensure an equipment PM program is in place and maintained
- Supervises staff to produce manufactured products and organizes and monitors workflow.Technical & Performance Requirements :
- Key floor leader to ensure all products produced are of the highest quality.
- Monitors daily quality and ensures all required documents required for our Intertek certification have been completed.
- Check quality of each door produced and uses that time as a teaching tool for the new door technicians.
- Ensure Fab department quality meets or exceeds R-cold expectations.
- Ensures panel quality is perfect daily by monitoring start up and regular quality checks throughout the day. Quality checks must be documented.
- Ensures metal and foam receipts are followed up with appropriate quality checks and documented.
- Works closely with MO sales and construction team to ensure orders are on time, correct, and produced with the highest quality.
- Ensures door department lead is training and monitoring new employees properly. Goal is to reduce turnover and create a positive work environment.
- Work with production manager to ensure plant schedule is set to accommodate R-Cold construction needs and MO sales needs. Create and adhere to a daily schedule.
- Follow common production practice to create a door department that works in a flow (multiple doors at a time) vs a single door mentality.
- Work closely with production manager to control costs!
- Parts ordering all done through procurement.
- Identifies missing employees to start the day and shuffle to fill holes to ensure resources are in the right location.
- Does not schedule un-needed labor. If production is not scheduled, we must control labor. (Decision to work or not will be at the production manager or COO level)
- Manages door foam booth to ensure doors have been shot properly with high quality. Also ensure room is kept clean.
- Ensure door and panel leads maintain a clean work are with tools organized and in good working order.
- Ensure panel lead maintains parts inventory.
- Parts inventory needs to be identified and documented.
- Begin process to cross train key employees for lead positions.
- Write down notes throughout the day on a daily pad to ensure items are not lost due to memory or multiple items going on at once.
- Complete all assigned tasks outside of the daily scoop of the role.
- Ensure you give a time for projects to be completed and ensure you meet the deadline or communicate issues.
- Work closely with plant maintenance and leads to design and build templates for door department.Requirements :
- 3 to 5 years of experience with production, logistics and manufacturing.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing procedures powered industrial equipment and OSHA guidelines.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills & attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively, with employee customers and vendors
- Ability to report effectively
- Safety Oriented (OSHA 30 Certification a plus).
- Knowledge with Microsoft office, excel / PowerPoint and word.Physical Requirements :
- Lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling of objects and materials of up to 50lbs.
- Have the ability to stand and walk for up to 8 (or more) hours a day.
- Some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
