Expert Utility Laborer
Experience: 3 years
Responsibilities:
✅ Assist with basic site preparation, material handling, and cleanup.
✅ Dig trenches and backfill under supervision.
✅ Read grade stakes, shoot grade at eye level, set up the pipe laser, and adjust the percentage of the slope.
✅ Spot existing utilities for the operator, rig lifts safely, and pour and shape inverts and collars.
✅ Carry and organize tools, materials, and safety equipment.
✅ Assist in setting up and maintaining temporary traffic control.
✅ Follow instructions from supervisors and work as part of a crew.
✅ Learn to use basic hand and power tools safely.
✅ Perform daily equipment inspections.
✅ Perform more advanced site preparation, trenching, and pipe laying tasks with minimal supervision.
✅ Operate hand tools and small equipment such as compactors, jackhammers, and saws.
✅ Assist in installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, electrical, gas).
✅ Backfill trenches and compact soil according to specifications.
✅ Read and understand site plans and utility layouts.
✅ Work alongside operators and foremen to ensure proper job site workflow.
✅ Oversee and train laborers in trenching, backfilling, and utility installation.
✅ Read and interpret blueprints, utility maps, and site plans.
✅ Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and job site safety standards.
✅ Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to underground utility installations.
✅ Lead utility installation projects from start to finish, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
✅ Communicate regularly with field supervisors via cell phone for job coordination and issue resolution.
Skills Required:
- Extensive knowledge of underground utility systems and installation techniques.
- Ability to supervise crews and ensure efficient workflow.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, maps, and permits.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental considerations in utility work.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
