General Maintenance Worker or Maintenance Trades Helper
Black Warrior – Tombigbee Waterway Project (Tuscaloosa AL)
R&D Maintenance Services, Inc. provides operations and maintenance services on U.S Army Corps of Engineers projects throughout the southeast - since 1980. We are the Operations and Maintenance Contractor for the Black Warrior – Tombigbee Waterway Project providing machinery and facility maintenance and repair on several hundred miles of waterway and 9 locks/dams/spillways on the system. R&D is an EEO Employer.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs or assists with a variety of trades and craft duties involving maintenance, repair and improvement of equipment, facilities, roads, fences, utility systems, etc. Trade practices include carpentry, painting, machinery repair, welding, electrical, plumbing, etc. Works independently or under general supervision of a craftsperson to perform the work assigned. General maintenance positions with growth opportunity based on performance, skills, and knowledge.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs or assists with routine maintenance, repair, or construction tasks on machinery, buildings, structures, utility systems, roads, etc.
- Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies.
- Performs or assists with lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation.
- Performs minor maintenance & cleaning activities for tools and equipment.
- Maintains a clean work area.
- Works indoor and outdoor assignments. May also be required to operate a motor vehicle.
- Participates in the R&D Safety and Quality Control Programs and upholds safety and quality requirements.
- Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must be able to use and operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in facilities and equipment maintenance, repair, and light construction.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights, and to access elevated platforms/catwalks.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; push; pull; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; and crouch.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception - either naturally or with the aid of eye glasses or contacts.
- Flexible attitude and willingness to assist various trades/crafts when necessary.
- You must be able to communicate efficiently and clearly with co-workers and supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- 1-3 year of verifiable work experience in building, facility, machinery maintenance, or construction trades.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Required to successfully complete background check, MVR, and drug/alcohol screenings.
