JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting with the oversight of R.E. Garrisons general ledger and accounting operations located at their headquarters in Cullman, Alabama. The individual will assume ownership of assigned duties and task within the corporate accounting group, displaying initiative, analysis, and problem-solving skills, improving, and maintaining the value of financial data and working with Assistant Controller to ensure the timely and accurate filing of monthly and annual financial information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :

Assisting in Account Payable / Receivable duties as needed

Evaluate capital expenditures and depreciation.

Analyze historical and current financial data.

Assist with month-end closing procedures for Company in compliance with accounting standards.

Assist in Billing and Accounts Receivable to ensure billing, pricing and balances are accurate and correct.

Assist management in generating monthly financial reports for the management team.

Assist in gathering information for various audits including the financial year-end audit, workers compensation, preliminary audit testing, ESOP, and 401k audits.

Maintain the integrity of general ledger and perform monthly review and reconciliations of necessary ledger accounts.

Record weekly payroll entries.

Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.

Record monthly accounting entries related to accruals and deferrals.

Establish and maintain strong working relationships with management team.

Assist in budget preparation and analysis.

Identify and investigate accounting discrepancies.

Prepare and distribute critical data reports; prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly reports and ad hoc reports in a timely, accurate manner.

Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor s degree in accounting or finance (BA / BS) from a four-year college or university required. Transportation experience is a strong plus.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and / or supervisor. Ability to effectively present information to an internal group.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE Requires general knowledge of accounting principles (US GAAP) and general ledger accounting.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and company results.

Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
