About the Role: Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, the Director of Business Development assumes a high profile role developing new business opportunities for our organization by growing revenue, finding and developing new business opportunities and expanding the brand. The Director of Business Development will also oversee client-relationship management and sales. The person in this role can recommend new products or services and lead a team to pursue the long-term goals of an organization.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Identifies and develops new business opportunities.
  • Builds relationships with customers, partners, and vendors.
  • Evaluates existing partnerships and sales efforts with an eye toward building on what works and changing what doesn’t.
  • Manages key client relationships and works to build new ones.
  • Expands the profile and reach of the company and its brands.
  • Leads sales, marketing, customer-service, and client relationship management teams.
  • Develops and strengthens internal and external relationships that will lead to increased lead generation and market share.
  • Builds cross-functional teams to guide and nourish sustainable, long-term growth.
  • Tracks emerging markets and trends.
  • Fosters and works to maintain an entrepreneurial growth culture throughout the company and across all teams and work functions.
  • Identifies and recommends new services.
  • Proposes and develops strategic partnerships.
  • Helps to shape the company’s long-term objectives and determine plans for how to meet them.
  • Researches and identifies new markets.
  • Provides advice on product development and distribution and promotion strategies.
  • Identifies sponsorship opportunities, including nonprofit engagement.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with vendors.
  • Conducts webinars and presentations to raise the brand or product profile.
  • Selects prospective vendors and negotiates contracts.
  • Travels to vendor locations, distributions centers, and other locations.
  • Fulfills requests for proposals (RFPs) from potential partners and customers.
  • Helps direct development of customer-facing web platforms and digital experiences.


Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience working with government and city agencies, as well as experience working in the business consulting, project management and/or construction industries. We look for teammates who are humble, curious, kind, proactive and resourceful. We are a small company - being nimble, flexible and not afraid of getting your hands dirty is a must. 


We are looking for:

  • Relationship management - especially in the areas of government and construction services
  • Lead generation and management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field
  • 7 years of business development experience
  • Proven track record of meeting sales targets
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of market trends and industry landscape
  • Able to develop creative solutions to meet customer needs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
  • Leadership, management, and mentoring skills
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Knowledge of product and sector
  • Financial and business acumen
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate accessibly and concisely about product or service to outsiders, including prospective customers and clients, partners, vendors, and press
