Summary
A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to independently perform work of a recurring and regular nature in accordance with established and well-known policies, procedures, and practices. Progress of work is checked and instruction is provided on accomplishing work involving unusual problems or the use of unfamiliar equipment.
Essential Functions
Independent judgment is required to identify, select and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for leading and participating in the work of the housekeeping crew responsible for providing cleaning of the Convention Center on an assigned shift.
Prioritizes, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of the housekeeping crew responsible for the convention center.
Provides staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies.
Oversees and inspects the work of assigned crew; ensures work is accomplished in a timely and appropriate manner.
Reviews BEO; coordinates with Event Coordinators to determine proper requirements for event cleaning; organizes, plans, and directs housekeeping staff on facility cleaning to include interior and exterior of the convention center.
Responds to emergency requests for service.
Operates equipment used in cleaning work including but not limited to forklifts, power sweepers, electric carts, City vehicles and carts, and a variety of hand and power tools; trains others in the use of equipment.
Ensures that all equipment is stored safely and in the proper location.
Completes daily inspection of the convention center to ensure that housekeeping crews have completed work tasks as assigned.
Orders and maintains adequate cleaning supply inventory.
Performs a full range of cleaning duties as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of procedures, methods, and techniques of event cleaning and use of chemicals in providing comprehensive cleaning services.
Knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn, standard cleaning methods and equipment used in custodial work such as brooms, mops, dust mops, vacuums, scouring devices, and wax applicators.
Ability to oversee the work and train assigned staff.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks continuously.
Ability to work independently in maintaining a clean and orderly area after a sufficient training period.
Ability to exert continuous physical effort including frequent bending, walking, manipulating, and heavy lifting of equipment.
Ability to work flexible hours to include weekdays and weekends based on programming needs.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Must be able to use tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.
Must be able to analyze and evaluate procedures and work processes and to exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to deal effectively and courteously with others, to work independently and in team settings.
Must be able to type or to use a personal computer with word processing and related software and to enter and retrieve information with reasonable speed and accuracy.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average-weight up to fifty (100) pounds, standing, sitting, and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
One (1) to two (2) years of supervisor experience, custodial or related experience; equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have some experience in janitorial maintenance and supplies.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Experience in communicating with diverse communities, and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
