Job Description:
The paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher by providing instructional, behavioral,
social, and emotional support to students with or without disabilities.
Supervision:
Works under the supervision of the Principal. The Principal, based on results of an annual
performance evaluation, determines consideration for continued employment.
Performance Responsibilities:
Assists in meeting the instructional needs of the students under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Provides assistance with classroom activities.
Assists with the preparation of instructional materials.
Assists with the supervision of students in various settings.
Maintains an environment conducive to learning.
Works cooperatively and collaboratively with all staff members.
Communicates with appropriate school staff about individual student needs while maintaining confidentiality.
Manages individual and classroom behavior.
Assists in the implementation of behavioral plans, as necessary.
Assists with handling of specialized equipment, such as assistive language devices, etc.
Attends staff meetings and IEP meetings, when requested.
Assists in maintaining classroom equipment and instructional materials.
Assists with feeding, diapering, and toileting, as well as other health-related duties, as required for students with disabilities.
Promotes a positive learning environment.
Supports the Principal’s goals, philosophy, and mission of the school.
Performs all other duties assigned by the Principal, within contractual guidelines.
General Expectations:
Maintains strong attendance and punctuality.
Maintains flexibility as it relates to grade level assignment.
Maintains the trust and confidence of students.
Works independently with general guidance.
Maintains cooperative relationships with students and adults.
Manages time to accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Operates standard office equipment including computers, email, and copier.
Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
Physical Demands:
Ability to move around the classroom including stooping, bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods of time.
Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to supervise students during outside recess in various temperatures.
Education and Experience:
Minimum high school diploma.
At least one year of experience preferred.
Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
Work Schedule: 8:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
