We’re seeking an Assistant Controller for our St. Charles, IL location. Someone with a passion for numbers and expertise in accounting and finance. Ideal candidate may currently be in an accounting manager or supervisory role.
As an Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing general ledger and accounting functions, compiling accurate financial statements, managing monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes, providing direct supervision to accounting team members, and handling payroll processing and management. You will play a pivotal role in managing the financial health of our organization, overseeing financial reporting, compliance, policy implementation, and mergers and acquisitions, all within the insurance industry. This position reports directly to the CFO within a company of 130 employees with 6 members on the accounting team.
Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight:
- Manage financial statements, including balance sheets, invoices, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
- Collaborate with upper management to identify cost reduction opportunities and manage liabilities
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations
Financial Reporting:
- Compile accurate financial reports based on financial statements
- Assist with developing forecasts and identifying variances from budget
- Ensure accuracy of the monthly close process and implement efficiencies
Policy Implementation:
Implement and enforce policies and procedures for financial reporting.
Payroll Management:
Handle full cycle payroll processes including tax withholding, benefits, and compliance.
Supervision and Leadership:
Supervise 4 direct reports and oversee department operation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s (required)
- Licensed CPA (preferred)
Qualifications:
- Ideally 5 years of experience with experience supervising a team
- Proven experience in managing month end close process, working with auditors, and payroll
- Familiarity with TPA processes, insurance companies, consulting firms
- Self-starter
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Advanced ability with Microsoft products including Microsoft Business Central, Excel
- Strong supervisory skills and familiarity with financial regulations
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and have a strong understanding of accounting principles
