What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Business Partner position at R.J. Corman Railroad Group?
Accountability: The Accounting Business Partner will be responsible for maintenance of general ledger accounts, financial and management reporting, and ensuring accounting transactions comply with US GAAP while fostering relationships to support business and operational needs.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains relationships with Company and Division leaders to enhance accounting business partnerships across the organization.
- Prepares monthly financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flows with the highest quality, reliability, and accuracy.
- Establishes management reporting to support internal and external customer needs for key metrics, operating ratios, and related business data.
- Serves as the primary source for accounting treatment of accruals, expenses, and complex accounting transactions to support Railroad Group and operating teams.
- Provides cost accounting support for inventory and manufacturing processes in different lines of business.
- Assists in fixed asset accounting and reporting.
- Facilitates the monthly close process, including reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies, and analysis of company accounts.
- Maintains account workpapers and the integrity of the financial reporting process and financial controls.
- Assists with the company’s annual external financial statement audit and periodic Yellow Book audits with independent auditors.
- Creates and updates written policies and procedures over accounting and financial reporting processes.
- Follows internal controls over accounting and financial reporting.
- Performs research of accounting issues including evaluation and implementation of new accounting pronouncements to ensure US GAAP compliance.
- Assists FP&A, Tax, Legal, and Risk Management with information requests, as needed.
- Participates in company-wide projects involving financial reporting processes, accounting software, or operational needs supported by the Finance department.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. MBA or CPA certification is preferred. Minimum 4 years progressively responsible accounting/financial reporting work experience. Proficiency in US GAAP, internal controls, accounting software, and advanced spreadsheet skills are required. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines are essential. Organization, problem-solving, and analytical skills will also allow a candidate to be successful in this position.
Physical Requirements: Limited lifting, no greater than 30 pounds in the movement of office materials and equipment. Hand and finger dexterity for use of keyboard skills; ability to use video display terminal and telephonic equipment in course of work.
Environmental Conditions: Performs duties in an indoor administrative office environment.
Major or Unusual Problems: High degree of inter-personal skills is required. Maintaining good relationships and working well on a large team within a growing organization requires creativity in providing improvements in services to related but different companies within the entire organization. Ability to produce high volume of work while maintaining consistent accuracy is a must.
Job Dimensions: Performs Financial Reporting functions for an organization with multiple legal entities operating in different lines of business. Position interfaces with and supports all levels of management and personnel across companies. Responsibilities are performed with moderate degree of independence under general supervision.
