R. J. Corman Railroad Company is seeking a Bridge Operator (CDL-B) based in Lexington, KY. A Bridge Operator executes bridge maintenance and project needs and collaborates with the Bridge team for accurate job completion. Primarily responsible for operating the Prentice Boom truck assuring FRA and DOT compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Operates and Maintains the RJC Bridge Crew Prentice truck per FRA and DOT regulations.
- Ensures FRA compliance with work practices.
- Operates with team members and is proactive with safety compliance.
- Must understand and operate according to FRA Bridge worker fall protection requirements.
- Required to work both independently and in groups, most often in an elevated environment requiring use of fall protection safety gear.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
- CDL-B required; CDL-A preferred
- Prefer experience in railroad bridge construction / bridge maintenance / bridge inspection & engineering or related field, including materials management.
- Communication skills with demonstrated experience with all levels of personnel
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
- Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
- Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
Environmental Conditions:
- Performs many duties in job-site environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles and equipment. Frequent exposure to weather elements; and appropriate PPE required for job site visits.
Major or Unusual Problems:
- Maintenance of teamwork to achieve track/mechanical standards objectives. Achieving timely and expedited performance to customers often in situations beyond the control of the operation.
Job Dimensions:
- Performs job under minimal supervision, planning and managing preventive maintenance of equipment and bridges.
