What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Heavy Equipment Operator/Laborer - Asheville, NC position at R.J. Corman Railroad Services LLC?
Responsibilities:
- Perform new track construction or maintenance tasks associated with railroad tracks
- Operate heavy or specialized equipment, including but not limited to skid steer, plugger, spike puller, bolt machine, compactor/ roller
- Practice safe working habits and ensure proper PPE is being used
- Be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
- Communicate with team and supervisor throughout the job process
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience working outdoors (preferably in construction)
- Mobility to participate in travel to and from project location located in North Carolina.
- Safety conscious with high regard to other employees working with and near equipment
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
- Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
- Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledgehammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
Environmental Conditions:
- Performs duties in multiple environments including outside construction project settings, in and around moving vehicles and equipment. Exposure to weather elements; must wear appropriate PPE required for the project site.
